“…The origin, maintenance, and handling of T. musculi in our laboratory have been thoroughly described (22,23 vestigation (12), from which it was learned that a parasite infection provides a powerful stimulus, at least as effective as injection of poly(IC) or, in comparison to other reports, as effective as bacterial endotoxin, Newcastle disease virus (24), or carrageenan (25) vis-a-vis NK stimulation.…”

“…Following the secondary Salmonella injection, the bursal follicles showed a moderate increase in the lymphoid cellularity of the medulla area. This increased cellularity may have resulted from the carrageenan and/or the LPS-lipopolysaccharide from the Salmonella It has been reported that the carrageenan-stimulated B-cell subpopulation is different from that which is sensitive to dextran sulfate and LPS (Quan et al, 1978: Kolb et al, 1981. Since there was no increase in the cellularity of the medulla in the control Salmonella-injected chicks, the high cellularity in the carrageenan-treated birds may be due to the carrageenan.…”

“…Carrageenan is an immunosuppressive agent which is toxic for macrophages but not for lymphocytes (Schwartz and Leskowitz, 1969;Lake et al, 1971;Catanzaro et al, 1971;Thomson and Horne, 1975;Lee and A1-Izzi, 1981;Hurtrel and Lagrange, 1981). While there is evidence that this sulfated polysaccharide could be mitogenic for both B (Quan et al, 1978;Kolb et al, 1981) and T cells (Sugawara and Ishizaka, 1982), there are reports that carrageenan inhibited T-cell proliferation (Bash and Vago, 1980;Bash and Cochran, 1980). Carrageenan is also a potent adjuvant (Mizushima et al, 1974;Quan et al, 1978;Kearney et al, 1979).…”

“…The optimization results of MOEAs are a group of optimal solutions that approximate to the PF, but it is difficult to measure the quality of the nondominated solutions. Therefore, this paper uses the GD [40], SP [41] and IGD [42] as the performance measuring methods to evaluate the convergence, distribution and comprehensive performance of the obtained solutions.…”
