Axion and Dilaton + Metric Emerge Jointly from an Electromagnetic Model Universe with Local and Linear Response Behavior

Abstract: We take a quick look at the different possible universally coupled scalar fields in nature. Then, we discuss how the gauging of the group of scale transformations (dilations), together with the Poincaré group, leads to a Weyl-Cartan spacetime structure. There the dilaton field finds a natural surrounding. Moreover, we describe shortly the phenomenology of the hypothetical axion field. -In the second part of our essay, we consider a spacetime, the structure of which is exclusively specified by the premetric Max… Show more

“…Note that in the TEGR case, discussed in the previous section, Π σ = H σ =H σ , while in general Π σ is different from H σ due its possible non-linear dependence on the torsion. The 3-form Υ µ is defined analogous toΥ µ , see (26), by replacingH µab with H µab ,…”

“…The vanishing of surface currents imposes the requirement of continuity of E θ and H θ at the core-cladding interface. 3 We insert our solutions for E z and H z into (4.36) and (4.38), which results for r = a in…”

“…As emphasised e.g. in[3], Maxwell equations in media can be written in a covariant way without invoking a metric. In our case the metric arises in the problem at hand through the definition of an isotropic medium.…”

“…It is surprising, the innocently looking non-relativistic analysis within electro-and magnetostatics led us to the physical dimensions [ε 0 ] and [µ 0 ] of ε 0 and µ 0 , see (57) and (59), respectively. They contain a clear message: the square-roots of their quotient and of their product carry a simple physical interpretation:…”
