Objective: to evaluate the contributions of an educational program for capillary blood glucose self-monitoring. Method: a quasi-experimental study performed in an outpatient unit of a tertiary health care service in a sample of 25 people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, from July 2016 to December 2017, developed through interactive tools for care with capillary blood glucose self-monitoring. Results: among the items of capillary blood glucose self-monitoring that showed improvement after participation in the educational program, the most noteworthy are the "postprandial blood glucose values" (p=0.0039), "Interpretation of capillary blood glucose results with meals and medications" (p=0.0156), "recognition of the 'weakness' symptom for hyperglycemia" (p=0.0386) and "administration of medications correctly" for hyperglycemia prevention (p=0.0063). Conclusion: the study made it possible to recognize the main characteristics of blood glucose self-monitoring that may contribute to the care for the person with diabetes.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is considered to be an important public health problem, both due to the number of people affected, the disabilities and mortality, and the costs involved in controlling and treating its complications. Objective: To evaluate the emotional aspects and self-care of patients with T2DM undergoing hemodialysis (HD) and to correlate these variables with the time of dialysis and the time of diagnosis of DM. Method: Individuals over 40 years of age, with Type 2 DM in HD for at least 3 months at the State Hospital of Bauru. Sociodemographic information was collected, and the participants answered the B-PAID questionnaires (perspective of the impact of DM on quality of life and emotional aspects) and the QAD (self-care). The data were presented descriptively and used Spearman's Correlation and the Chi-square Association Test (p <0.05). Results: Fifty-four individuals, aged 62 ± 9 years, predominance of white skin color and incomplete elementary school were studied. In the B-PAID the mean score was 23 (7-43) points, demonstrating low emotional distress, and in the QAD the lowest adherence was in the "Physical Activity" domain and greater "Foot care and medication use". There was a positive correlation between DM time and HD time (p = 0.04, r = 0.27) and association between heart disease and B-PAID (p = 0.02). Conclusion: The individuals studied presented low emotional distress, good foot care and those with a lower incidence of heart disease suffer less from DM.

Intervenciones de enfermería en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 que aumentan sus conductas de autocuidado: revisión integrativa 1 RESUMEN El objetivo de esta revisión fue identificar intervenciones de Enfermería que aumenten las conductas de autocuidado en pacientes con diagnóstico de Diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Es una revisión integrativa donde se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos en SciELO, BVS, PUBMED y WOS, entre septiembre y diciembre del 2017, utilizando los descriptores; diabetes mellitus tipo 2 AND autocuidado AND atención de Enfermería, en idioma español, inglés y portugués. Inicialmente se identificaron 2.534 publicaciones y tras la aplicación de; filtros, criterios de selección y escala JADAD, la muestra seleccionada fue de 10 artículos. En cinco de los estudios la intervención tuvo resultados positivos con respecto al autocuidado, de las cuales cuatro utilizaban estrategias derivadas de la psicología como; entrevista motivacional, teoría del cambio de comportamiento y resolución de problemas. Se concluye que los profesionales de Enfermería deben profundizar en el área de la psicología y formar equipos de trabajo con estos profesionales, ya que las personas con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 necesitan un cambio de comportamiento a largo plazo. Por lo tanto, también se necesitan intervenciones de larga duración para lograr estos cambios y aumentar la calidad de vida de estos pacientes.
