Vibrio, mainly Vibrio harveyi, V. campbellii, V. parahaemolyticus and V. splendidus, especially in their luminescent form are considered highly pathogenic to shrimp larvae. An effort was made to minimize the luminescent Vibrio load using an essential oil blend formulation (EOBF) consisting of Eucalyptus oil, jasmine oil, and gardenia oil in equal proportions. An eighteen-day small hatcheryscale trial was initiated, starting from the nauplii stage. The shrimp were distributed into three groups and four replicates each: a negative control, positive control with four replicates, and an EOBF treatment group. The shrimp at the mysis stage were challenged using a sublethal dose of 10 3 CFU/mL luminescent Vibrio harveyi. The obtained results indicated that the presence of harmful Vibrio in tank water, was almost one log lower in the EOBF group than in the positive control. The presence of pathogenic luminescent Vibrio in the positive control was 45%, whereas it was 19% in the treatment group. In addition, the EOBF-treated had better performance, and productivity. The results of this trial suggest that EOBF can reduce pathogenic Vibrio in hatchery environments and can increase productivity.

Abstract:The complex and multifaceted medical and surgical world of eighteenth century was composed of medical paradigms, health workers and a myriad of diseases. The methods used by surgeons were recorded in their treaties promoting and disseminating the construction of knowledge, which largely were beaded and highlighted by Portuguese who have crossed the Atlantic and settled in the New World. In this article we will discuss how the brandy was an important resource, considering that it possess antiseptic properties that confirmed for the treatment and care of injuries, sometimes preventing infections were the cause of death of many people. The alcoholic content of the drink in eighteenth-century period is also contributed in our discussion, given that there também é aportado em nossa discussão, haja vista, que havia o emprego para a conservação de espécimes tanto da flora quanto da fauna em Portugal e na América portuguesa. Intenta-se constatar o quanto determinadas práticas são relevantes para a análise da historiografia, bem como o quão importantes foram para manutenção e sobrevivência da vida humana.Palavras chave: Século XVIIII; Aguardente; História da Medicina; Práticas no século XVIII; América portuguesa was use for the conservation of species both flora and fauna in Portugal and Brazil colony. Tries to observe how certain practices are important for the analysis of historiography, and were very important for the maintenance and survival of human life.
