Available Bandwidth Estimation Using Collision Probability, Idle Period Synchronization and Random Waiting Time in MANETs: Cognitive Agent Based Approach

Abstract: In Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs), each node estimates available bandwidth (AB) before transmission of real-time multimedia data, as the channel is shared. The existing AB estimation techniques lack accuracy and add overhead. Accuracy of these AB estimation techniques could be enhanced by adopting some intelligent techniques. Intelligent software agents such as cognitive agent (CA) have significant potential to solve the challenges of estimating AB in MANETs. Intelligence is provided similar to the logical th… Show more

“…The available bandwidth is used for the selection of network in heterogeneous network environment. Parts of the protocols that comes under passive technique are: Distributed LaGrange interpolation based available bandwidth estimation (DLI-ABE) [23], available bandwidth estimation method for IEEE 802.11 ad-hoc network with concurrent transmissions (ABCT) [24], measured based bandwidth estimation technique and flow admission control (BandEst) [25], cognitive agent based available bandwidth estimation using collision probability, idle period synchronization and random waiting time (BECIT) [26], MBA-AODV [27], analytical available bandwidth estimation including mobility (AABWM) [8].…”

“…Most of the previous work classified the active available bandwidth estimation for admission control into single packet/one packet and packet pair [3], while other classifications of active technique are different but with the same role. In [15] the active available bandwidth estimation technique is classified into isolated probing, direct probing, and iterative probing.…”

“…We therefore argue that classification of active bandwidth estimation into single packet/one packet and packet pair as categorized by [3] will simplify the readers understanding of the active bandwidth estimation process. A diagram showing the subdivision of active protocol is shown figure 1below:…”
