Auxetic Expansion of the Tunica Albuginea for Penile Length and Girth Restoration Without a Graft: A Translational Study

Abstract: Introduction Several conditions can cause penile length and girth loss. Surgical techniques have been used to restore these penile alterations in patients with severe erectile dysfunction during penile prosthesis implantation. One technique uses multiple small incisions in a mesh pattern (similar to a skin mesh) with satisfactory curvature correction without using a graft, however, this technique does not allow simultaneous increase in penile length and girth. … Show more

“…The results of this study demonstrated auxetic incisions expanded the fabric cylinder in both penile length and circumference, while the mesh incisions only expanded in length or circumference. The resulting final volume obtained using the auxetic technique was 2.9-fold greater than that of the mesh technique ( 41 ). Illustrated images from their series are provided in Figure 5 .…”

“…Rotating Triangle (RT) structures have been widely studied in the literature, where the lattice angle was varied from 0°to 135°for investigating their possible applications in various domains [42,[94][95][96][97][98]. Some key application areas were biomedical sector, aerospace, textile, sensors, and actuators.…”

“…Current skin grafting trends focus on improving the availability, effectiveness, expansions, and safety of the procedure [23]. Auxetic patterns were recently used in skin grafting to increase the expansion ratio and recover large burn areas effectively [34][35][36][37].…”
