Automatisierte Hrschwellenbestimmung bei Neugeborenen mit extrapolierten DPOAE-Wachstumsfunktionen

Abstract: The method fulfils the essential criteria for screening newborn hearing. It is fast and easy to handle, and measurement and data analysis are performed automatically. Preliminary results suggest that the new method is able to differentiate between transitory middle-ear dysfunction and persisting cochlear disorders. Due to its better diagnostic capabilities in comparison to TEOAE, DPOAE, and FAEP, this method may provide a new instrument with which to make a fast evaluation of hearing function in children.

“…However, Janssen et al (2003) evaluated the slope of DPOAE I/O-functions in their neonate study. They compared the slope obtained within the early postnatal period (mean age: 3 days) to that obtained in a follow-up measurement four weeks later and found the slope to be unchanged although there was a significant increase in the DPOAE level and a significant decrease in the estimated DPOAE threshold level.…”

“…A decrease in DPOAE level was also observed by these authors by filling the bulla with fluid. Janssen et al (2003) applied extrapolated DPOAE I/Ofunctions (following the method of Boege and Janssen (2002)) in human neonates to estimate pure-tone thresholds and compression. The estimated pure-tone thresholds were found to be increased within in the early postnatal period, predominantly at the higher frequencies, and to reach normal levels in a follow-up measurement four weeks later.…”

“…Using various setups of the DPOAE I/O stimuli, one can estimate the cochlear compression, which is related to a specific threshold value [31,35]. Janssen et al [36] used this concept to produce a relationship between DPOAE I/O amplitude values and hearing threshold. According to their data, "The hearing threshold was found to be increasing within the early postnatal period (average age: 3 days), predominantly at the higher frequencies, and to be normalized in a follow-up measurement (after four weeks).…”
