Automation of the protein crystallography beamline X06DA at the Swiss Light Source

Abstract: Poster Sessions automated data collection system. With this system, automatic sample exchange, centering, data collection and data processing are automatically carried out according to a user defined schedule. The construction of the beamline will be completed in the summer shutdown of PF-AR. The beamline commissioning will be finished by the end of March 2009. The first user operation is expected in April 2009. Here, we will present the general outline and current progress of this project.

“…This resulted in a mini -goniometer head version 3 (MK3) that is fully compatible with the MD2 and MD2M suite of diffractometers installed on many MX beamlines (Cipriani et al, 2007;Brockhauser et al, 2007). Indeed, similar miniaturized -goniometer instruments have also been developed elsewhere (Wang et al, 2008;Shi et al, 2006;Rosenbaum & Westbrook, 1997;Rosenbaum et al, 2006). Four MK3s are now permanently installed and available on the EMBL-ESRF Joint Structural Biology Group beamlines at the ESRF.…”

“…Other beamlines and tube-based X-ray scanners have implemented automated systems for sample management and exchange; specifically, the tomography beamline of 2-BM at the Advanced Photon Source (De Carlo et al, 2006;Wang et al, 2001;De Carlo, 2010), several protein crystallography and diffraction beamlines (Olieric et al, 2009;Wang et al, 2008;De Carlo & Tieman, 2004;Yamamoto et al, 2005;Alzari et al, 2006;Moser et al, 2005), and some SCANCO mCT scanners (SCANCO Medical AG, 2009).…”
