Automatic subsystem identification in statistical energy analysis

Abstract: An automatic methodology for identifying SEA (statistical energy analysis) subsystems within a vibroacoustic system is presented. It consists in dividing the system into cells and grouping them into subsystems via a hierarchical cluster analysis based on the problem eigenmodes. The subsystem distribution corresponds to the optimal grouping of the cells, which is defined in terms of the correlation distance between them. The main advantages of this methodology are its automatic performance and its applicability… Show more

“…Once defined the test cases, the next step is that of partitioning the four-plate system into subsystems. This sub-structuring [46][47][48][49][50] should comply with the weak coupling assumption of SEA. Different definitions for the latter can be found in literature, which have always been a matter of discussion.…”

“…The clustering algorithm is similar to the one described in [15], but with one important difference: the elements are simply the rows of T k , and there is no need to divide the problem domain into cells nor to compute energies associated to those cells. The clustering process is hierarchical; this means that the rows of T k are grouped progressively into sets of rows according to their correlation distance.…”

“…Some of them simply choose the subsystems according to the material: a glass pane, an aluminium panel, etc. [9,10], other are based on energy models [11,12,13], regard the frequency response function of a system [14], or study the shape of some eigenfunctions of the system [15].…”

“…As an effective prediction technique for medium-high frequency responses, statistical energy analysis (SEA) is widely used in the aerospace and auto industry [1][2][3]. SEA divides complex systems into different modal groups.…”
