Automated refraction after trifocal and trifocal toric intraocular lens implantation

Abstract: Background: To analyze the correlation between automated refraction and manifest refraction after implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens or its toric version. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 105 eyes of 105 patients. Subjects were divided in two groups: 62 with trifocal (AcrySof PanOptix) and 43 with trifocal toric (AcrySof PanOptix Toric) intraocular lenses. Automated refraction was employed as starting point for obtaining the manifest refraction. Automated refraction and manifest refraction… Show more

“…Therefore, the effect on the objective refraction is concerning. A clinical evaluation of 62 eyes that were implanted with the IOLs and examined with an auto kerato‐refractometer KR‐8800 (Topcon, Japan, NIR light source) showed no difference in the spherical refraction between the subjective and objective refractions (Rementería‐Capelo et al., 2020 ), whereas the objective cylindrical and SE refractions shifted myopically (mean differences, −0.43 and 0.20 D, respectively). An examination of the differences in the powers at 550 and 800–900 nm is required to investigate the effect.…”

“…Besides, we compared the effect of FLACS versus standard phacoemulsification on these parameters. To date, there have been only a few studies regarding outcomes of implantation of PanOptix toric IOL 1417,19 and a single study about effect of FLACS. 16…”

“…18 There are only a few reports regarding the clinical outcomes of this new trifocal toric IOL and comparison of subjective and objective outcomes of this trifocal toric IOL between femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) and standard phacoemulsification. 1417,19…”

“…Similar to the previous studies performed in the clinic, all subjects underwent an ophthalmologic examination including refraction, screening for ocular conditions and/or systemic diseases, slitlamp biomicroscopy, and fundus examination. 7,18…”

“…Similar to the previous studies performed in the clinic, all subjects underwent an ophthalmologic examination including refraction, screening for ocular conditions and/or systemic diseases, slitlamp biomicroscopy, and fundus examination. 7,18 Once each patient met the criteria for the study, the cataract surgery with IOL implantation was performed. Cataract surgeries and IOL implantation were performed by 2 experienced surgeons (L.A.R.C and J.L.G.P) under topical and intracameral anesthesia, with a 2.2 mm clear corneal incision at 135 degrees and stop-andchop phacoemulsification.…”
