Automated Optimization for the Production Scheduling of Prefabricated Elements Based on the Genetic Algorithm and IFC Object Segmentation

Abstract: Background: With the ever-increasing availability of data and a higher level of automation and simulation, production scheduling in the factory for prefabrication can no longer be seen as an autonomous solution. Concepts such as building information modelling (BIM), graphic techniques, databases, and interface development as well as heightened emphasis on overall-process optimization topics increase the pressure to connect to and interact with interrelated tasks and procedures. Methods: The automated optimizat… Show more

“…For example, in the production, transportation, and construction of prefabricated components. Xu established an automatic optimization framework for production scheduling of prefabricated components based on manufacturing process models and genetic algorithms, which improved the operability and accuracy of the production process [18]. Mojtaba develops a tracking and condition monitoring system for damage detection in the transportation of prefabricated components [19].…”

“…Indeed, research efforts are extensive in addressing these two systems since they closely reflect the digital shift's potential for enhancing construction productivity [83,84]. Moreover, these systems are acknowledged as being critical drivers for construction industrialization [85][86][87]; they foster automation of design and manufacturing operations. The bibliographic review addressing the joint use of BIM and OSC resulted in 182 documents in Scopus and 193 in Dimensions.…”

“…The less addressed themes are production scheduling and visibility. Recent research focuses on genetic algorithm [121] and collaboration strategies [122] for the optimisation of production scheduling. As demand for prefabricated components increase, PHB companies need to produce at a faster pace; thus, managing resources is a key constraint.…”
