Automated deployment and scaling of automotive safety services in 5G-Transformer

Abstract: There is a growing interest of verticals (in this case, the automotive industry) to reap the benefits of 5G networks. At the same time, there is a clear trend of the telco industry to understand their needs. These are also some of the main goals of the EU 5G-TRANSFORMER (5GT) project. This demo focuses on the need of verticals to dynamically deploy services at the edge and to adapt the vertical service to network operational conditions. In particular, it is presented the extended virtual sensing (EVS) service,… Show more

“…Undoubtedly, automotive services can benefit from the wide deployment of cellular network infrastructure and from its reliability, while providing very low latency [11]. This has been confirmed by the work done within several European projects, such as 5G-TRANSFORMER [2], which has experimentally demonstrated the dynamic deployment and real-time adaptation (e.g., scaling) to the automotive service requirements and the good performance of the cellular edge in this respect [3].…”

“…Indeed, such applications will have to adapt to varying car traffic conditions, network infrastructure conditions, and to their own performance. 5G-TRANSFORMER [2] is a European research project in which dynamic deployment at the edge (e.g., based on location constraints) and adaptation of automotive services (e.g., scaling out [3]) was evaluated by exploiting the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) NFV-based platform developed in the project. This also sets the general framework of this paper.…”

“…The use of forecasting to tackle V2N service scaling is recent, given the late arise of applications as remote driving. Indeed, the literature typically assesses the scaling of V2N services [27], [28] with threshold-based mechanisms. However, even the papers that use forecasting for V2N scaling do not include a comparison of time series analysis and MLbased techniques.…”

“…These networks are expected to support several media services that need very high speeds, even Internet of Things (IoT) networks that contain a dense amount of connected devices with different requirements and constraints. 5G networks are deployed to satisfy the need of multiple vertical industries over a shared infrastructure with the use of concepts inclusive of community slicing [1]. Regarding the transport stream held by 5G, video-primarily based totally clients represent a big portion of the data stream carried, with approximately 79% of cell information [2].…”
