Autoantibody Frequency in Celiac Disease

Abstract: AIM:In our study, we investigated the levels of glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody (anti-GAD), islet cell antibody (ICA), thyroperoxidase antibody (anti-TPO), thyroglobulin antibody (anti-TG), antinuclear antibodies (FANA), antibodies to double-stranded DNA (anti-ds DNA), antibody to Sjögren syndrome A antigen (anti-SSA), antibody to Sjögren syndrome B antigen (anti-SSB), Smith antibody (anti-Sm), smooth muscle antibodies (ASMA), and antimitochondrial antibody liver-kidney microsome (AMA-LKM) in patients wit… Show more

“…Utiyama et al detected ANA positivity to be significantly high in CD with a frequency of 8.9% (23). In the study by Caglar et al, ANA frequency in the patients with CD was 12.9%, but there was no significant difference between the patients and healthy controls (13.8%) (24). In our study, the ANA test was positive in 12 (14.6%) patients.…”

“…da Rosa Utiyama et al [50] conducted a study on 56 patients with CD, their 118 first-degree relatives and 101 healthy controls, and determined that ANA has a significantly increased frequency in the CD group compared with healthy controls. However, Caglar et al [51] did not determine a difference in ANA frequency between CD patients and control cases. Floreani et al [52] carried out a study on 361 patients with PBC and determined that ANA positivity was not associated with extrahepatic autoimmune conditions.…”

“…15 One study by Lerner et al 38 observed that in a group of patients with CD, 23% had anti-dsDNA and 14% had anticardiolipin antibodies. However, a study by Caglar et al 39 found no significant differences in the frequency of a number of anticytoplasmic and antinuclear antibodies between patients with CD and healthy controls. Additional studies are necessary to clarify the significance, if any, of these serologic abnormalities.…”
