AuthenticPeer: A Reputation Management System for Peer-to-Peer Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Reputation and trust are dominant challenges in peer-to-peer (P2P) networks in general and peer-to-peer sensor network (P2PWSN) in particular. Numerous efforts have been devoted to developing reputation management systems that can alleviate the difficulties in finding trustworthy communication partners in P2P networks. There are two main approaches in this field: peer-based reputation systems and message-based reputation systems, each of which has its own advantages and limitations. In this paper, we propose a… Show more

“…Trust management systems in P2P environments can be divided into three main categories. The first category is peer-based trust systems, where the decision for which source to download is reached based on the honesty of peers; secondly, we have file-based trust systems, where the decision for which source to download is reached based on the quality of the provided file; the final category is hybrid-based systems, which are combinations of peer and file systems [49]. Among the different categories, peer-based systems are the most commonly employed.…”

“…In peer-based trust management systems, reputation is calculated on the basis of the peer's past behavior regardless of the files past ratings. In other words, the choice of a server is based on the peer's reputation, not the file's trustworthiness [8]. One of the most well-known peer-based trust management systems is EigenTrust [6].…”
