Augmented Reality Navigation System on Android

Abstract: With the advent of the Android system, smart phones are rapidly developing and through the conveniency of accessing internet on the smart phones, a user’s location information can be accessed anywhere and anytime easily. Augmented Reality Based Technology enables the provision of variety information such as pictures and location of buildings in the navigation field. Most of the augmented reality program used to Visual Trace Method (Marker method and Markerless Method). For the Visual Trace Method, the marker i… Show more

“…All illustrations are colorized in grayscale as presented in Figure 3. It is widely known that there are two types of AR: Marker AR and Markerless AR [3]. In this augmented book, the type chosen is Marker AR, so that some markers need to be created.…”

“…Smartphones' capabilities currently have gone through some enhancements, making augmented reality books, known as augmented books, which combines the use of conventional book and smartphone can be developed. Augmented Reality (AR) itself is as a system created by computer graphics that consist of virtual worlds combined with virtual reality [3]. Various fields have been applying this sophisticated technology, such as education, tourism, advertising, architecture, and urban scheduling navigation such as indoor building and bus route guidance [3], [4], [5], [6].…”

“…When using AR systems for guiding manual construction processes, one of the major drawbacks of current off-the-shelf AR systems (i.e., HoloLens, MagicLeap) is the insufficient accurate alignment of the digital model with the physical environment and an unsatisfying context awareness, i.e., for understanding the as-built condition in relation to the digital plans. To overcome the alignment limitations (Bostanci et al 2013), researchers have thus proposed solutions that either use markers Hübner et al 2018), restrict the user to specific regions (Welch et al 2001), or rely on Global Positioning Systems (GPS) (Chung et al 2016). However, these solutions still do not meet the requirements for building accuracy and lack of options for measurements and process-specific feedback.…”
