Background: The Iranian health system is based on social health insurance, which is responsible for providing access to basic health care. In addition to basic treatment insurance, complementary health insurance (CHI) offers introductory packages that include surplus services. We recently observed an increase in Iran's health insurance loss coefficient, from 16.5% to 90.4% in 2017.Aim: To determine the willingness to pay (WTP) for (CHI).Methods: We attempted to determine the WTP for CHI in this study to understand better the potential market and the factors that influence CHI demand. The study surveyed 1023 households in the Kerman Province. A questionnaire developed by the researcher was used in this study, based on the principles of contingent valuation and the bidding game method principles. In each scenario, the factors affecting people's WTP, the demand function, and the effective factors on demand were determined using linear multivariate regression using the ordinary least squares method.

Wprowadzenie i cel pracy. Współcześnie obserwuje się rosnącą popularność medycyny komplementarnej i alternatywnej (complementary and alternative medicine – CAM). U podstaw zjawiska leży szereg uwarunkowań, które są przedmiotem zainteresowań nauk społecznych. Badania te napotykają na szereg metodologicznych trudności. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja psychologicznych uwarunkowań stosowania CAM w świetle literatury przedmiotu. Przedstawienie stanu wiedzy poprzedzono obszernym wstępem teoretycznym z uwagi na nikłość aktualnych polskich opracowań dotyczących omawianej tematyki w literaturze z zakresu psychologii zdrowia. Dokonano przeglądu prac badawczych z lat 1990-2021 w bazach danych dostępnych w zasobach Ebsco, tj. Medline, APA PsycArticles, APA PsycInfo, CINAHL; w wyszukiwarce Google Scholar; spisach piśmiennictwa znalezionych artykułów oraz w zasobach własnych. Skrócony opis stanu wiedzy. Istniejących badań dotyczących zjawiska jest relatywnie niewiele, wyniki dotychczasowych badań niejednokrotnie są sprzeczne. Najlepiej poznanymi determinantami stosowania CAM są czynniki środowiskowe i poznawcze dotyczące stylów poznawczych i przekonań. Duże znaczenie mają również czynniki związane z duchowością i religijnością. Najmniej wiadomo na temat czynników osobowościowych i emocjonalnych. Podsumowanie. Tematyka psychologicznych uwarunkowań stosowania CAM wymaga dalszych badań. Głębsze poznanie determinant zjawiska pozwoli na lepiej zrozumieć potrzeby i oczekiwania pacjentów, które stoją u podstaw postaw zdrowotnych.

Skin laceration caused by a short distance shot from a pepper spray launcher: a case report

Pepper spray launchers are more precise and wind stable compared to conventional pepper sprays and are commonly used as a self-defensive tool. With the advanced potential, they may also harbour a greater risk for injuries, especially if they are not used within the suggested safety distance. If the shooting distance is below 1.5 m, energy densities may exceed the threshold energy density for the penetration of skin leading to skin laceration. We present a case where a man is hit by the liquid jet of a JPX Jet Protector® with an estimated shooting distance of 0.3 m. The man suffered from a bleeding skin laceration, which had to be sewed in the hospital. This case report furthermore outlines the potentially dangerous effect of pepper spray launchers and thereby their role in forensic investigations.
