“…Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) is one of the most commonly used techniques for the determination of REE in biological samples because of its ability to carry out rapid multi-element detection over a wide concentration range with relatively low detection limits. 7 However, major difficulties in the determination of REE in natural samples (e.g. tomato) are caused by interferences formed in the plasma and by the oxide interferences that REE generate on each other.…”

“…However, the sheath-flow (make-up buffer) dilution and apparently insufficient transport efficiency set limits on an inherently very high sensitivity of ICP-MS. For this reason chiefly, applications of CE coupled with ICP-MS to trace species analysis remain rather scarce [62,70,72,78,80,[85][86][87] and have to be adapted in future research. In this regard, an attractive alternative to the determination of elements capable of forming volatile compounds is the use of an CE-ICP-MS interface, which incorporates an on-line volatile species (e.g., hydride) generation system followed by a gas-liquid separator [88]. Such species are introduced into the plasma nearly quantitatively that offers significantly better detection limits, as was demonstrated by Silva de Rocha et al [62] for the analysis of mercury species.…”
