Recent advances and trends in capillary electrophoresis of inorganic ions

Abstract: Capillary electrophoresis (CE) continues its invasion into the domain of inorganic analysis. This review summarizes the progress and significant developments of CE of inorganic ions over the first two years of the new century. As manifested by the substantial number of published articles, this field is still witnessing a growing activity of many separation scientists. To provide an in-depth treatment of fundamental and methodological aspects of inorganic ion analysis by CE, an extensive fraction of the relevan… Show more

“…The group of applications has also widened markedly. The applications of CE are covering huge number of analytes from inorganic ions [4][5][6][7][8] and organic molecules [9][10][11] to biomolecules such as proteins [12][13][14] and DNA [15][16][17]. The golden era of CE was in 1990s, during the Human Genome Project [18].…”

“…The capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) is the most simple and convenient method which is widely used for separation of inorganic ions [234][235][236][237] and small biomolecules [238], and even both categories simultaneously [239]. Because nitrite and nitrate are easily accessible to CZE, this methodology became a generally employed HPCE technique to analyze these anions in biological samples.…”

“…In this regard, the online hyphenation of sample preparation unit and detection device is a remarkable achievement. Many reviews on CE selectivity, sensitivity and applications for metal ion speciation have been published [7][8][9][10]. Inexpensiveness, unique selectivity and high degree of matrix independence (due to high theoretical plate numbers, i.e.…”
