Atomic Layer Deposited TiO2 and Al2O3 Thin Films as Coatings for Aluminum Food Packaging Application

Abstract: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) coatings have been investigated in a wide range of bio-applications due to their biodegradation and biocompatibility properties, that are key parameters for their use in the food packaging and biomedical devices fields. The present study evaluates and compares the electrochemical behavior of the non-coated, commercial resin-coated, TiO2-coated and Al2O3-coated aluminum in commercial beer electrolyte. For this, TiO2 and Al2O3 thin films were deposited on alumin… Show more

“…The strong band at 3000-3400 cm −1 and the weak band at 1600-1700 cm −1 can be assigned to the stretching and bending modes of the adsorbed water [48]. Other absorption peaks were observed at around 480-500 cm −1 after the steam coating process, which could be attributed to Al-O symmetric stretching and ring vibration mode in Al-O tetraheda formed through the oxygen atom [49]. In particular, the KTiO x s/AlO(OH) composite reveled the stretching vibration mode of Ti-O (580 cm −1 ) and Ti-O-Ti (720 cm −1 ) with Al-O bonding [50].…”

“…The diffusion of lithium ions in LIB cell is done in active electrode material which shows inclined line in the region where low frequency is applied, whereas, in the middle of frequency range, semi‐circle is formed. This represents the charge transfer resistance as in parallel to lithium ions movement between the electrodes using the interface of electrolyte 34 . The ionic conductivity of cell is attributed to the Ohmic resistance as depicted in the EIS profile in the form of x‐intercepts which are formed in high frequency region.…”

“…Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) thin films and nanolaminates have a significant number of promising applications in different areas, such as microelectronics [1][2][3][4][5][6], photovoltaics [7,8], photocatalysis [9][10][11] fuel cells [12], sensors [13][14][15][16], anti-reflective coating applications [17], biomedical coatings [18,19] and food packaging applications [20]. The properties and applicability of TiO 2 thin films are intrinsically related to their crystal structure.…”
