Atmospheric-Pressure Pyrolysis Study of Chlorobenzene Using Synchrotron Radiation Photoionization Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: The pyrolysis of chlorobenzene (C6H5Cl) at 760 Torr was studied in the temperature range of 873–1223 K. The pyrolysis products including intermediates and chlorinated aromatics were detected and quantified via synchrotron radiation photoionization mass spectrometry. Furthermore, the photoionization cross sections of chlorobenzene were experimentally measured. On the basis of the experimental results, the decomposition pathways of chlorobenzene were discussed as well as the generation and consumption pathways o… Show more

“…Therefore, the solvent content and solvent clusters are also important for the protonation process, and the decrease of ion intensities with a further increase of dopant content from 7:3 to 6:4 ( V methanol / V dopant ) in Figure 2 was speculated to be partially due to the decreased methanol content, which resulted in reduced methanol clusters for proton transfer reactions. “…Compared with vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) lamp and laser, the synchrotron radiation (SR) light source offers the advantages of wide wavelength tunability and high brightness. SR-PIMS has been widely utilized for the investigation of chemical reactions involving combustion, pyrolysis, and gas–solid heterogeneous catalysis. , By scanning photon energies, photoionization efficiency (PIE) curves are obtained to distinguish isomers/isobars, whose further verification and calculation of molar fractions can be performed via simulating the PIE curves with known absolute photoionization cross sections (PICSs) of products. , …”
