Athelium imperceptum Nyl. (Thelocarpaceae, Ascomycota), a scarcely known ephemeral lichen of biological soil crusts, new to Ukraine

Abstract

Our new record to Ukraine of a rare lichen Athelium imperceptum (syn. Thelocarpon imperceptum) is discussed. We provide data on ecology of the species and its European distribution and we have also made up modern diagnoses of both, the genus Athelium and the species A. imperceptum. The recovered genus Athelium is distinguished from Thelocarpon by the absence of pulvinic acid derivates forming a superficial yellow pruina on perithecia; its perithecia rather resemble those of Thelopsis rubella. Thelocarpon magnussonii is also devoid of yellow pruina (probably a secondary lost) but it differs from A. imperceptum by its well-developed thalline exciple.

Surprisingly, immersed in soil we found the fruiting bodies of the ephemeral lichen Thelocarpon imperceptum, that has few records worldwide (Khodosovtsev et al 2010). Moreo-ver, further studies may lead to the description of a lichen (Megasporaceae) new to science, which was collected in the "Sahy" Landscape Reserve.…”

Лише в останні десять років лишайникам та ліхенофільним грибам цієї території було присвячено низку статей, в яких подано описи нових для науки видів Llimoniella caloplacae та Xanthocarpia borysthenica [KONDRATYUK et al, 2006], Caloplaca sterilis [SOUN et al, 2011], Pronectria diplococca та новинок для України, таких, як Athelium imperceptum [KHODOSOVTSEV et al, 2010], Calogaya polycarpoides, Caloplaca raesaenenii, Enchylium coccophorum, Rinodina mucronatula, Thelidium bryoctonum [KHODOSOVTSEV, 2008], Didymellopsis pulposi [KHODOSOVTSEV, 2011], Staurothele geoica [KHODOSOVTSEV et al, 2013], Collemopsidium subarenisedum [GAVRYLENKO, 2012] тощо. Інтерес до лишайникових угруповань цієї території пов'язаний також з тим, що вони представлені на об'єктах природно-заповідного фонду України, а саме в ботанічному заказнику «Софіївський», який увійшов до новоствореного національного природного парку «Нижньодніпровський», у ботанічному заказнику «Широка Балка», ландшафтному заказнику «Олександрівський» та запроектованому ландшафтному заказнику «Лесовий Каньйон».…”
