Key Words : Two-way relay, self-interference, legacy device, MIMO, precoding ABSTRACTIn this paper, two-way amplify-and-forward relay methods are investigated where two terminals and one relay node are equipped with multiple antennas. In two-way relay channels, it is assumed that one terminal can eliminate its own self-interference but the other cannot. For this channel, we first maximize the sum-rate performance by employing an iterative gradient descent (GD) algorithm. Then, a simple singular value decomposition (SVD) based block triangularization is developed to null the self-interference. Simulation results show the proposed methods outperform the conventional schemes for various environments.

We explore a full-duplex technique in wireless communication particularly for relay networks. We consider the relay to operate in full-duplex, which occurs when transmission and reception are conducted in the same channel. We investigate potential benefits of full-duplex technique in relay networks, which uses multiple antennas for transmission and reception combined with the Amplify-Forward (AF) scenario. We study the effects of multiple antennas in terms of relay capacity. We derive an ergodic capacity expression using the Tracy-Widom distribution. Using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and perfect Channel State Information (CSI), we investigate these three scenarios: First, we consider the relay to have an antenna larger than that of both source and destination. Second, we consider both relay and destination to have an antenna larger than that of the source. Third, we consider both relay and source to have antenna larger than that of the destination. We show the results that the capacity of the relay with a fullduplex technique is almost twice the capacity of an half-duplex. We show that increasing the number of destination antennas is not help much when one of the source antennas is small. Moreover, the capacity decreases due to a channel hardening effect, when the number of destination antennas is larger than that of the source.

The capacity and mutual information of amplify and forward (AF) cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with direct link are studied and analyzed in this article. Specifically, the capacities of space modulation techniques (SMTs)-AF and spatial multiplexing (SMX)-AF cooperative systems are derived, and the conditions under which the capacity is accomplished are discussed and interpreted. The impact of varying system and channel parameters on the capacity is studied and discussed. As well, the impact of the presence or the absence of the direct link on the capacity performance is discussed. It is revealed that the capacity can be attained if the distribution of both direct and cooperative links follow complex Gaussian distribution. The capacity of SMTs-AF systems is shown to be higher than that of SMX-AF counterparts. As well, the capacity of SMTs-AF is shown to be independent of the fading channel distribution as the channel is a source of spatial symbols in SMTs. Additionally, it is disclosed that the capacity performance is significantly enhanced in the presence of the direct link and adding more AF relays enhances the performance.
