Although the reservation was subsequently withdrawn permitting these children the full range of rights and protections under the CRC (Human Rights Joint Committee, 2009), the estimated 82,000 refugee and asylum-seeking minors living in the United Kingdom do not possess the same rights as children with British citizenship (Cemlyn & Briskman, 2003;Jones, 2001).
