Associations between maternal anthropometric characteristics and infant birth weight in Iranian population

Abstract: Objective:To examine the (1) normal ranges of anthropometric and insulin resistance/sensitivity indices (homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance, homeostatic model assessment for insulin sensitivity, and quantitative insulin sensitivity check index) for Iranian pregnant women and their newborns and (2) associations between maternal anthropometric and metabolic values and infants’ birth weights among Iranian women. Methods:Anthropometric and metabolic values of 163 singleton non-diabetic pregnant wom… Show more

“…Many studies done in this aspect focused on most commonly used maternal anthropometric measures, such as pre-pregnancy weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI) and Gestational weight gain, due to their significant association with intrauterine growth 2,5,[7][8][9][10] . Different degrees of associations between maternal anthropometric measures and newborn birth weight were reported in those studies [2][3][4][5][6][7]11 . Differences in relationships could be due to variations in growth potentials among different communities.…”

Among many other factors, maternal anthropometry plays a crucial role in determining the neonatal BW [1][2][3][4][5][6] .
