Associations between apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and KI 67 in different tumors: a meta-analysis. Part 2: ADCmin

Abstract: The purpose of this part of the meta-analysis was to summarize data regarding associations between minimum apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCmin) and KI 67 in different tumors.MEDLINE library was screened for associations between ADCmin and KI 67 in different tumors up to April 2017. Overall, 23 studies with 944 patients were identified. Associations between ADC and KI 67 were analyzed by Spearman's correlation coefficient. The pooled correlation coefficient between ADCmin and KI 67 for all included tumors was… Show more

“…The ADC min of stage T2b-T4 cervical cancers was significantly lower than that of stage T1 to T2a cancers, and it was even lower in patients with lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis [22]. In one histopathologic study, the ADC min value of cervical cancer exhibited a negative relationship with Ki-67, the index of cellular proliferation (r = − 0.56, CI = − 0.68−− 0.43, [23]). A meta-analysis among various kinds of tumors also found ADC min had a stronger relationship with Ki-67 compared with ADC mean [24].…”

“…Of note, a correct oncologic status evaluation allows for the establishment of better therapeutic strategies, with a favourable impact on prognosis as well as survival. In addition, the use of perfusion, spectroscopy, and diffusion MRI modalities can provide essential data about angiogenesis, cell metabolism, and cellularity of cancer lesions [1012]. Still, histopathological studies are essential to validate the results of PET-CT and MRI exams [13].…”

“…Second, it may be that the multicomponent perfusion had a great effect on D* (18)(19)(20)(21). Specifically, the bi-exponential model assumes that there is only one type of blood vessel within the voxel, namely the capillaries (22). In biological tissues, each voxel contains many types of blood vessels, such as arteries, veins, arterioles, venules, etc.…”
