Association of vesicoureteral reflux and renal scarring in urinary tract infections

Abstract: The ratio of renal scars detected was found to be parallel to the VUR frequency. The higher the VUR grade, the more renal damage was found. A positive correlation between elevated CRP and renal scarring was determined, indicating the presence of scarring during the diagnosis of pyelonephritis.

“…In a Turkish study of 156 children aged 0-16 years with UTIs, increasing grade of VUR was associated with increasing rates of renal scarring (13). A longitudinal study with median followup of 5.6 years was conducted to investigate the association between renal scarring and adverse renal outcomes in children with a diagnosis of UTI or VUR (14).…”
