Association between sleep duration and haemoglobin A1cin young adults

Abstract: Short sleep duration is associated with higher levels of HbA(1c) and an increased risk of prediabetes in young adults. The findings suggest that inadequate sleep impairs glucose control in the short term and may increase the risk for long-term health problems.

“…Poza wpływem na rozwój otyłości i nieprawidłowymi nawykami żywieniowymi na rozwój zaburzeń gospodarki węglowodanowej wpływa także sama deprywacja snu. W badaniu The Dunedin Multidisciplinary Heath and Development Study obejmującym 1037 osób bez cukrzycy w wieku 32 lat deklarowana długość snu korelowała negatywnie z wartością hemoglobiny glikowanej (HbA 1c ; p = 0,002) i zwiększonym ryzykiem prediabetes (p = 0,015) [40].…”

“…As described above, the average age of Group E was older than that of Group L. To avoid the possibility of the effects of aging [2,3] and the duration of sleep [4][5][6], each group was divided again and then the duration of sleep (6.20 hours) and age-matched four groups were prepared ( Table 1).…”
