“…However, the concern that topical retinoids may be associated with major congenital malformations was initially raised by three reports, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received between 1986 and 1989, regarding infants with holoprosencephaly whose mothers had been exposed to topical retinoids . Based on these findings, a case–control study using the EUROCAT registry failed to confirm an association . In the following years, six cases of infants with various major congenital malformations were reported where the mothers had been exposed to topical retinoids during their pregnancy.…”
