Association between dental visits at primary care and glycated hemoglobin level in patients with type 2 diabetes: a cohort study

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the association between dental visits and variation in the glycated hemoglobin index (A1C) of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) with well or not well glycemic control over time. Methods: Patients with T2DM, A1C ≥ 7% (not well-controlled) and < 7% (well-controlled), who attended a primary care service and were followed up from January 2010 to May 2018. The outcome was the variation of A1C obtained from reference laboratories. At the beginning of the study, a questionnaire with beha… Show more

“…In physiological state, the human body will also synthesize and secrete BNP, but its level is far lower than many pathological conditions. Studies have pointed out that when the heart load is too heavy or the heart chamber is pulled, increasing the internal pressure of the heart, releasing the ventricular BNP, reducing the heart load, improving the heart function, reducing the systemic circulation resistance, and maintaining the normal function and structure of the heart have a very important role [ 34 , 35 ]. HbAlc is a ketone ammoniated compound formed by n-acetylglucosamine and β -terminal amino acids after the synthesis of hemoglobin in the human body.…”

“…38 The HbA1c test provides an estimate of the average glucose level over the 30 to 90 days preceding the test. 39 Therefore, the short-term uctuations may not be accounted by this test. It is often used to monitor long-term blood glucose control in diabetic patients and to determine treatment plans.…”
