Associated coronary and cardiac anomalies in the tetralogy of Fallot. An angiographic study

Abstract: Numerous studies have pointed out the frequent association of tetralogy of Fallot (TF) with other cardiovascular defects and coronary tree anomalies. We found cardiac defects in 181 (68%) out of 265 patients with TF investigated by catheterization and selective coronary angiography. These anomalies were isolated in 88 cases (49%) and associated with others in 93 patients. In the case of an isolated anomaly associated with TF, the coronary tree was involved in 37.5% and the cardiovascular system in the remainin… Show more

“…In our analysis the type of concomitant heart defects coexisting with coronary anomaly remain consistent with other publications concerning this topic [5,7,11,14,15]. Kaushal et al [11] in an analysis of 27 adolescents revealed coexistence of ASD (4 patients) and PDA (1 subject) with anomalous origin of a coronary artery in 5 (18%) cases.…”

“…Majority of coronary anomalies remain isolated defects [15], but may also present with concomitant other malformations such as transposition of great vessels, tetralogy of Fallot, single ventricle or persistent truncus arteriosus [5,7,15]. To our knowledge, there is lack of data regarding occurrence of coronary anomalies and other cardiac defects in CT.…”

“…6 Several studies have also demonstrated associated coronary and cardiac anomalies in Tetarlogy of Fallot which can be of importance during surgery. 7 In this series 82% of TOF patients had confluent and adequate size of pulmonary arteries. 20% patients had right aortic arch and 4% patients had left superior vena cava.…”

“…The presence of anomalous coronary arteries observed about 1% of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization (Plastiras et al, 2008). Also we see the occurrence of coronary anomalies is 0.3-0.9% in patients without structural heart disease and significantly higher (3-36%) in patients with structural heart defects (Carvalho et al;Dabizzi et al, 1990).…”
