Assessments for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder: use of objective measurements

Abstract: Aims and methodTo appraise the value of additional information from objective measurements (QbTest system) in the clinical assessment of children and adolescents with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Two groups of ADHD assessments were compared. In the first group, assessments were undertaken without objective measures, whereas in the second group objective measures were added to the assessment. Practice outcomes were followed up over 1 year.ResultsObjective measures improve differentiating bet… Show more

“…Qb Test [23]: The Qb Test is a computer-test combining infrared camera recordings of the child’s movements, with a concurrent computer test, a Continued Performance Test, which measures the child’s attention and impulse control. The Qb Test produces quantitative measurements of difficulties in the three areas, characterizing the core symptoms of ADHD; inattention, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.…”

“…The Qb Test produces quantitative measurements of difficulties in the three areas, characterizing the core symptoms of ADHD; inattention, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. The test has previously been proven valid and sensitive, in the monitoring of the effect of pharmacological treatment of children and young people’s ADHD core symptoms [23, 24]. …”

“…These findings support and extend previous research, demonstrating the utility of the QbTest to aid ADHD assessment in children. Previous research has indicated that QbTest can differentiate ADHD from healthy controls (Oades et al., ; Ulberstad, 2012, unpublished data) and result in improved clinical decision making (Vogt & Shameli, ). This current study is the first to show this improved decision making may result in a reduction in clinical consultations and cost saving to NHS practice.…”
