Assessment of Wear Properties on Treated AISI 410 Martensitic Stainless Steel by Annealing Process

Abstract: Martensitic stainless steels find less application in commercial products as they have high hardness, strength, and wear resistance. It lacks in ductility and exhibits moderate corrosion resistance compared to other stainless steels. As a result, annealing process were been used to strengthen the ductility and maintain stability in hardness of martensitic stainless steel material. AISI 410 was chosen for this research work and the samples were made to cylindrical shape for the following dimensions: 50 mm lengt… Show more

“…Wear tribometer are widely used in tribology, which involves in placing a small pin against rotating disc as shown in Fig 2 . This setup allows for the evaluation of friction, wear, and other tribological properties of materials under controlled conditions. The wear characterization of the materials in this experiment would involve analyzing the wear behavior of the treated samples based on factors such as wear rate, coefficient of friction, and surface damage [35][36][37][38][39]. The results obtained from the wear test would provide insights into the effectiveness of the heat treatment processes in improving the wear resistance of the material.…”

“…All of them lack magnetic properties when annealed, while some may acquire some magnetic properties after being cold worked. They have excellent cold working strength, remarkable moldability, and outstanding corrosion resistance [7][8].…”
