Assessment of undergraduate students’ tooth preparation for full veneer cast restorations

Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate tooth preparation for full veneer cast restorations performed by final year dental students in Sudan. Materials and Methods: 117 stone dies from two different dental institutions were collected and evaluated. Polyvinylsilioxane impression material was used to produce two impressive replicas of which one was sectioned in faciolingual plane and the other in mesiodistal plane. “…22 In the present study, gender did not affect the incidence of postoperative pain, despite the female patients demonstrated slightly higher scores for all time intervals in accordance with other studies. 13,22 Additionally, the location of the tooth was not found to be a determinant on the pain scores, since no difference was found between mandibular and maxillary teeth. Besides, asymptomatic teeth were included to eliminate a possible preoperative variation.…”

“…16,17 This result is consistent with the finding among students in the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Kebangsaan in Malaysia, and College of Dentistry in Khartom University. 8,9 One of the limitations of this study is the use of traditional equipment to evaluate their preparation. We have to use the 3D programs or new machines, such as CAD/CAM.…”

“…In general, preparations were smooth with no irregularities or sharp angles. 8,9 Pre-clinical laboratory performance on the typodont with ivory teeth had a strong correlation with the clinical performance by dental students in the preparation of anterior ACCs. 1 Therefore, adequate preclinical prosthodontic training is an integral part of the curriculum, and the teaching staff should regularly monitor the students during pre-clinical training courses.…”
