Triglyceride (TG) abnormalities are the most prevalent type of dyslipidaemia in the people of northeast China. Many researchers have investigated the prevalence, treatment and control of TG abnormalities, but little is known about the associations between the TG values and the factors that influence TG levels. This study aims to reveal quantile-specific associations of TG with its risk factors. A sample of 16,340 participants in Jilin Province were included in this study. A quantile regression (QR) model was performed to identify the factors that affected TG levels in different quantiles. The distribution of TG levels was different between males and females (χ2 = 155.77, P < 0.001). Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were positively associated with TG levels in all quantiles. Drinking was positively associated with TG levels in high quantiles (P70.6 to P95) only in males, while age had a positive association with TG levels in all quantiles only in females. The risk of WC on TG levels was higher with increasing TG levels, and smokers were more at risk for increasing TG levels, as well.

Sodium is an essential component of the human body, with known influences on obesity. This paper reports the effect of cube natural sea salt (CNS) on the reduction of obesity in high fat diet-induced obese C57BL/6 mice and 3T3-L1 adipocytes, by ameliorating the obesity parameters and obesityrelated gene mechanisms. The suppression of high fat diet-induced obesity and differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes by sea salt depends on the manufacturing process and mineral content. The manufacturing method using only new sea water (Cube natural sea salt) decreases the magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S) content in the salt with different crystallization and morphologies, compared to the general manufacturing method (Generally manufactured sea salt, GS). Mg in salt is known to considerably affect obesity; an appropriate concentration of magnesium chloride (MgCl 2 ) reduces lipid accumulation significantly and regulates the lipogenesis and liver enzyme activity. Our results indicate that sea salt contains an appropriate level of Mg as compared to table salt (purified salt, NaCl), and is important for regulating obesity, as observed in the in vivo and in vitro anti-obesity effects of CNS. The Mg content and mineral ratio of sea salt are important factors that ameliorate the lipid metabolism and liver enzyme activity in high fat diet induced obesity, and contents of Mg in sea salt can be altered by modifying the manufacturing process.Salt is required to maintain homeostasis in the body by regulating the membrane potential, fluid volume, acidbase balance, and nervous system. Globally, many countries predominantly eat purified (iodized), rock, and sea salt. Purified salt (99% sodium chloride, NaCl; generally called table salt) is made from sodium ion (Na + ) and chloride ion (Cl − ) from sea water using an ion exchange membrane electrodialysis process, and is composed of more than 99% NaCl 1 . Sea salt (SS) is crystallized from seawater in salt ponds using sunlight and wind 2 . Unlike purified salt, SS generally contains 92.4~94.4% NaCl and various other minerals, such as potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and sulfur (S) 3 . This imparts numerous health functionalities to SS 4-9 and a unique taste 10 as compared to purified salt. In addition, our previous study showed that the crystallization time and evaporating method of seawater are important factors affecting the quality, mineral composition, taste, and health functions of SS.High salt consumption has synergistic effects in western diet-induced metabolic diseases 11 . In Europe and Northern America, most people eat processed foods (added high salt content using purified salt) compared to home cooked foods (as high as 75% in USA and UK) 12 . Background Glycogen storage disease type I(GSDI) is a glucose metabolic disorder caused by glucose-6-phosphatase deficiency. GSDIa patients are characterized by hypoglycemia, hepatomegaly, hyperlipidemia and lactic acidemia. This study aims to review the lipid status in patients with GSDIa, explores the lipid treatment targets and preferable lipid-lowering drugs. Methods The clinical data of GSDIa patients characteristics were collected. Diet control, raw cornstarch were used to maintain normal blood glucose and lipid level. Some patients were given lipid-lowering drugs. We compared the lipid levels before and after each treatment. Results A total of 163 GSDIa patients were enrolled in this study and 773 times of lipid levels were detected. TG was normal in only 13 times of detection from 10 patients(2%). There were 26 patients who took atorvastatin or fibrates (fenofibrate or gemfibrozil) regularly for more than one year. The lipid levels could be improved after lipid-lowering drugs treatment. The therapeutic effect of atorvastatin was better than fibrates. The total cholesterol(TC) was positively correlated with total triglycerides(TG) after treatment. A regression equation was established for TC and TG, TG=-2.86 + 1.63TC. The complication of hyperlipidemia was mainly caused by TC. As long as TC maintained normal, TG did not have to be maintained normal and a certain degree of hypertriglyceridemia can be accepted. The lower bound of China Children's TC abnormal level (5.18 mmol/L) was substituted into the established regression equation to obtain TG = 5.58 mmol/L. We set a target that when the TG level was lower than 5.58 mmol / L after treatment, TC could maintain normally. There was no need for further increasing the dosage of lipid-lowering drug. Conclusion Patients with GSDIa had significant abnormalities in blood lipid metabolism. We found that there was a linear correlation between TC and TG, which was TG=-2.86 + 1.63*TC. We made a point that as long as the TC remained normal, a certain degree of hypertriglyceridemia could be accepted. We set a target that when the TG level was lower than 5.58 mmol / L after treatment, TC could maintain normally. This study found that the therapeutic effect of atorvastatin was better than fibrates.
