Al6061 with hard particle reinforcement contains higher stiffness, maximum strength and wear resistance when compare to unreinforced alloy. They can be usage for self-propelled automotive components and aircraft construction. Metal matrix composite (MMC) concentrate chiefly on amended specific strength and wear resistance application. Aluminium as base material and coconut shell ash(CSA) as reinforcement has good potential. The principle difficult is to create this composite in a practical manner. In this project Al6061-CSAp castings with different volume fraction of CSA were produced in an argon atmosphere by an enhanced stir casting method. We found that with more % of CSA addition there is an improvement in specific strength of the composite. Pin on disc equipment used for dry sliding wear analysis of MMCs. The Taguchi analysis revealed the improved specific strength as well as wear resistance. EDS analyses showed oxide phases presence in the castings. Surface Morphology particle distribution were examined in detail by SEM.

A systematic and efficient approach for the selection of material is necessary to choose a best alternative for the structure or component under consideration. The multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approaches are well suited to deal intricacy in judgment of material assortment. In this paper, integrated MCDM approaches like analytical hierarchy process (AHP)–technique for order preference by the resemblance to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) and AHP–multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) methods are used to rank aluminum-coconut shell ash (CSA) composites. The weightage for each criterion is calculated by AHP method and utilized in the TOPSIS and MOORA approaches to rank the materials. The target-based attributes such as density (physical property), hardness, tensile strength, toughness (mechanical properties), wear rate, and coefficient of friction (tribological properties) of the prepared composites are considered in the selection of criteria process. The composites are fabricated using stir-casting process by varying the volume fraction (5, 10, 15, and 20%) of CSA incorporated with Al-1100 matrix. A detailed study on the MCDM approaches revealed that Al-15% CSA composite emerged as the best material followed by Al-10% CSA composite among all, whereas the base matrix is found as the poor performed material in this study.

Limestone slurry powder (LSP) is one of the solid wastes generated from stone processing industry, used as reinforcing agent replaced conventional ceramic compounds in Aluminum Metal Matrix composites (AMCs) to increase mechanical and tribological properties. In this work aluminum (Al)-magnesium ( Mg)-silicon (Si) alloy is strengthened with addition of LSP to determining the tribological performance of Al-LSP composites are composed with 4, 8, 12 and 16 % weight ratio, and prepared via double stir casting. The tribological tests were conducted on Pin-on-disc Tester, and used to evaluate sliding wear rate (WR) and coefficient of friction (CF). The results indicate that, the wear rate increased with increase of applied load and sliding velocity, but decreased with increasing LSP. Wear mechanism is observed with increase of applied load and changing from abrasion wear to delamination wear. The dispersoids phase in sub-surfaces, worn-out surface and distribution of LSP in base material are examined by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and optical microscope. Taguchi Orthogonal Array (L25) is considered to estimate an optimal response. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the most influencing parameters are sliding distance and working load on WR and CF respectively.
