Assessment of the relationships between the distribution of soil horizons and the climatic parameters

Abstract: The influence of 15 parameters of atmospheric and soil climates on the distribution of 12 genetic soil horizons (humus, eluvial, illuvial, and metamorphic) in the soils of Russian plains was studied. Quanti tative characteristics of the relationships between these climatic parameters and the distribution of soil hori zons were estimated by the rank correlation method. The initial dataset was prepared with the use of digitized maps in the MapInfo program. The results of our study made it possible to estimate t… Show more

“…Therefore, a synthetic indicator is required to reflect the nonlinear influence of the conditions of heat and precipitation upon biological and biomineral systems, including soils. An analytical equation by Volobuev (1975) (equation (1)), which still retains its validity (Alyabina and Nedanchuk, 2014; Rasmussen, 2012), permits the use of the values of annual sums of precipitation and radiation balance for the estimation of climatic expenditures expressed in energy units Q (MJ m −2 a −1 ).…”

“…It is known that physiographic zoning of territories is based on the system of relationships between soils and soil-forming factors, among which climatic conditions play the leading role. At that, difference between precipitation inflow and evaporation has the greatest influence on profile formation [1,3]. The factors of arable soil acidification include protonation of the soil environment associated with the vital activity of plants and microorganisms, redox reactions, the use of physiologically acidic mineral fertilizers, as well as losses of alkaline earth elements due to removal with crop harvest and leaching with surface, subsurface and groundwater runoff [16].…”
