They are part of a larger movement promoting pedestrian zones, home zones (Barrell and Whitehouse, 2004), car-sharing (Cervero, 2003;Loose et al, 2006;Prettenthaler and Steininger, 1999), and shifting the urban transportation mix towards more sustainable modes of transport (Wright and Curtis, 2005;Zacharias, 2003).
