Assessment of the anti‐feeding and insecticidal effects of the combination of dinotefuran, permethrin and pyriproxyfen (Vectra®3D) againstTriatoma infestanson rats

Abstract: Abstract. This study, based on the rat model, was designed to explore the anti-feeding and insecticidal efficacy of a topical ectoparasiticide, dinotefuranpermethrin-pyriproxyfen (DPP), against Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera: Reduviidae), a vector of Trypanosoma cruzi (Trypanosomatida: Trypanosomatidae), for which dogs are domestic reservoir hosts. Twenty rats were divided into two equal groups: untreated and treated. Each rat was exposed under sedation to 16 T. infestans of mixed life stages for 1 h on days 1,… Show more

“…This approach has been registered to provide broad-spectrum activity against nematodes and ectoparasites in dogs [7,18,19]. In addition, the separate use of Vectra ® 3D (dinotefuran-permethrin-pyriproxyfen) and Milbactor ® (milbemycin oxime/praziquantel) have been proven to be effective against a wide range of vectors and Dirofilaria larvae [20][21][22][23][24], leading to a reinforcement of their synergetic effect against Dirofilaria transmission when administrated concomitantly.…”
