“…The total annual solar radiation reaching the territory is of the order of over 200 million ton of oil equivalent (toe)/year, over 12-fold the total annual energy consumption in the region (Mulugetta, 1995). Although there are significant temporal and spatial variations in the distribution of wind energy across Ethiopia, the total wind resource potential still amounts to 42 million toe/year which also exceeds gross energy consumption by about 2.5-fold (Mulugetta and Drake, 1996). Thus, there is ample evidence to indicate that Ethiopia is reasonably well positioned in resource terms and can conceivably move toward energy self-sufficiency given far-sighted investment and strategic planning.…”
