BackgroundDuring menopause, a woman’s lifestyle may change significantly, which will have implications on her quality of life. Women will experience menopause for more than a third of their life; therefore, maintaining good health during this period is crucial. A healthy diet and physical activity can help women maintain their health during menopause. Hence, assessing adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity among menopausal women is important.PurposeThis study aims to assess the degree of adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity of menopausal women in Jordan and determine the most influential factors.MethodsA descriptive cross-sectional design was used in this study, and an online self-administered questionnaire was sent to 299 menopausal women selected through simple random sampling. A valid and reliable questionnaire was used to assess the menopausal women’s adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity. The questionnaire consisted of 14 items covering two domains: 12 questions for the diet domain and two questions for the physical activity domain. Descriptive statistics were obtained, mean weight and body mass index (BMI) were calculated, and stepwise regression was conducted for the data analysis.ResultsThe overall degree of adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity of the women was moderate (49.25, SD = 7.17). Most of the participants reported eating refined food items once a month or less (n = 188, 62.9%) and not exercising weekly (n = 119, 39.8%), and only a few reported eating refined food items at least once a day (n = 5, 1.7%) and exercising 5–6 times a week (n = 15, 5%). The regression analysis showed that age (B = 0.145, p = 0.014), having two children (B = 0.123, p = 0.034) and completing primary or secondary education (B = 0.120, p = 0.038) were statistically significant and the strongest predictors of adherence. The predictors accounted for 68% of the variance in adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity (R2 = 0.068, F [343.54] = 7.123, p = 0.000).ConclusionThe majority of the middle-aged menopausal women in this study showed moderate adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity. Age, having two children and completing primary or secondary education were associated with degree of adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity. Therefore, healthcare intervention, such as physical activity and dietary control programs, should target women in this age group and stage in life.

The health of postmenopausal women especially living in rural areas is neglected. A cross sectional study was conducted among 45 to 70 years old postmenopausal women living in Barugur Taluk of Tamil Nadu, India, using a pretested, structured questionnaire with an objective of identifying the postmenopausal women with poor health and nutritional status. Majority of the selected women were 45 to 50 years old (40%) and illiterates (87.45%). More than 60 percent of them had ≥ 3 children. More than 90 percent were non vegetarians and 80.39 percent of them were taking tea. Nearly 25 percent of them were overweight or obese and only 35.29 percent had normal Hemoglobin. TBF (%) and VF (%) were above normal for 20.83 percent and 18.18 percent of the selected women respectively. The W/H ratio of 65.28 percent showed central obesity. The blood pressure and blood sugar level was high for 11.8 percent and 19.44 percent of the women respectively. The nutritional and health status of the selected postmenopausal women were poor. Special health camps can be conducted in rural areas to identify the women who are at risk of malnutrition and at risk of developing MS.

Menopause is the challenging period of a woman’s life marking the end of reproductive phases, normally occurring at mid forty between 45-55 years of age. Approximately 43 million of postmenopausal women is in India now. There is Drop in the level of estrogen and progesterone hormone that produce short-term and long-term effects. Main objectives were to assess the interventional measures in order to bring awareness and improvement in the nutritional status of menopausal women. A total of 100 post-menopausal women subjects were selected using purposive random sampling technique. Experiment was conducted in three phases. With help of Questionnaire collected Data were analyzed by using SPSS 16 software. Majority of Selected samples were from 46 - 50 year of age group, in which 26 % had the habit of consuming milk daily while 51% once a week.63% had the habit of exercise, 61.20 %, 26.86 % and 11.94 were following Walking, yoga and exercise percent respectively. 62 % of women had aching joint and muscle pain as a psychological symptom and vaginal dryness, skin wrinkling and skin itching. 28 % of menopausal women had problem of weight gain, bone disease. 67 percent, among all of the menopausal women had put an effort to lose weight. The prevalence of physiological symptoms and psychological symptoms were reported in more percentage. After imparting nutrition education using developed material like booklet, diet-charts, significant improvement and awareness regarding various aspects of menopause were noticed among menopausal women.
