Assessment of methods of marking LED sources with the power of equivalent light bulb

Abstract: Abstract. This article presents considerations on the assessment of marking LED sources with the power of an equivalent light bulb. This problem was studied both on the basis of calculations and measurements performed. 17 LEDs of different powers and luminous fluxes were tested. Calculations assessing conformity with the declared power showed that an important disadvantage for most of the LED sources results from the method of marking them with the power of an equivalent light bulb from the point of view of th… Show more

“…As a result of one of the priority actions of the European Union (EU), authorities are obligated to reduce electricity consumption, and an important branch of electricity, where this aspect is considered, is electric lighting. The effect of the actions made by the EU is a process of withdrawing energy-consuming light sources and promoting the introduction of modern light sources like light-emitting diodes (LEDs) [4,21,22]. For this reason, LED sources are also considered as the light sources possible to be installed in the opal sphere type luminaries.…”

“…Registration of selected quantities with regard to the light sources and the luminaires was done after one hour from the moment of the voltage being supplied. According to the information provided in [63], this time is sufficient to conclude that the individual parameters of the lamps are stabilized. The integrating sphere was used to determine the spectral characteristics while the electrical parameters were recorded with the use of an Norma 4000 power analyzer produced by FLUKE.…”

“…Manufactures blow their own trumpets with the sophisticated designs and control systems dedicated to their products, the ever bigger luminous efficacy of LED sources, the unique reduction in energy losses, and the overestimated forecast of many cost savings [9,10]. Nevertheless, the mere fact of using LED technology does not always guarantee 2 of 19 the best possible solution [11,12]. It is true that there are many advantages to LEDs, but there are also many disadvantages or unsolved problems, such as heat dissipation, blue light hazard, life time, and the adverse effect on the electrical power system (the generation of harmonics) [13].…”
