Assessment of hysteroscopic role in management of women with recurrent pregnancy loss

Abstract: It appears that hysteroscopy is a useful tool in the diagnosis and treatment of the causes of recurrent miscarriage that can be performed safely without anesthesia in most cases. The prevalence of uterine anomalies in patients with recurrent miscarriages is 54.5%, septate uterus is the most common anomaly and for this reason uterine anomalies should be systematically assessed in patients with recurrent miscarriage.

“…In our study the uterine septum was the most common uterine anomaly affecting 33 cases (20.1%) of our cases with recurrent first trimesteric abortions. This result is similar to Bohlmann et al (9) , Elsokkary et al (12) , Weiss et al (13) and Moiety et al (15) . While, in Ventolini et al (10) and Camuzcuoglu et al (14) the uterine adhesion(s) were the most common.…”

“…While Alobaidy et al (11) found different results with 68% nulliparity, Elsokkary et al (12) also disagrees with 88% nulliparity. In Weiss et al (13) the mean of previous deliveries of 5.08 ± 2.29 was much higher than ours this could be due to decreased awareness of antenatal care in our patients.…”

Also, according to Weiss et al 15 , 70% of patients had normal hysteroscopic findings and 30% had abnormal hysteroscopic findings.…”

“…Недоліками методики є болючість, ризик інфікування та отримання інформації лише щодо внутрішнього контуру порожнини матки. Пряму оцінку порожнини матки можна провести за допомогою діагностичної гістероскопії [9,10,11,12]. Однак ні гістеросальпінгографія, ні гістероскопія не дають можливості оцінити товщину стінки матки та її зовнішній контур для подальшої диференціації типу аномалії розвитку.…”
