Assessment of Groundwater Quality of Outer Skirts of Kota City with Reference to its Potential of Scale Formation and Corrosivity

Abstract: Kota City is a prominent industrial and educational town of Rajasthan state, India. Mega industrial projects of cement, fertilizers, power plant, oil seed processing units are located nearby the city. The groundwater of study area is used in domestic as well as in industrial activities. It is worthwhile to know the water quality status and its effect on entity, which is exposed in practical use. A comprehensive assessment of water quality parameters in groundwater samples drawn from 24 different locations, 6 s… Show more

“…In present observation chloride content was fluctuated from 22.999 to 64.998 mg/l with the mean value of 36.082±4.040 mg/l which was significantly very low than limits of WHO 15 and results were referred by the findings of Chambal river 6 . Total Alkalinity itself not harmful for human beings 12 moreover the value of alkalinity provides idea of natural salts present in water 25 .…”

“…Therefore, it is important to assess the water quality and monitor the water pollution in rivers 3 which help to control and conserve the aquatic resources. The water quality parameters were studied in Cauvery river (Karnataka) 4 , river Devaha (Uttara Pradesh) 5 , Chambal river (Rajasthan) 6 , Arasalar river (Tamil Nadu) 7 , Kolong river (Assam) 8 , Satluj river (Punjab) 9 , Yamuna river 10 and in Tapi river 11 and reported the pollution status. The objective of the present study is to assessment of the water quality and source of pollution in downstream of Ukai, Tapi River (Gujarat).…”

“…The prediction of the tendency of scaling or corrosion of water was determined based on Langelier saturation index (LSI) proposed by Langelier and Ludwig (1942) and Gupta et al (2011) using AquaChem software 2012.1 version. The LSI is defined using Eq.…”

“…The LSI is based on the solubility of calcium carbonate and the potential of the water to form scale (Langelier, 1936; Assembly of Life Sciences [U.S.], 1982). The LSI was chosen to characterize scaling potential because of its ease of calculation and the wide application of this index to different types of waters and to different water usage conditions around the world (Assembly of Life Sciences [U.S.], 1982;Rafferty, 1999;Luo et al, 2009;Gupta et al, 2011;Kinsela et al, 2012). The expression for LSI is written as (Ahmad, 2006) follows:…”
