Assessment of COVID-19 data reporting in 100+ websites and apps in India

Abstract: India is among the top three countries in the world both in COVID-19 case and death counts. With the pandemic far from over, timely, transparent, and accessible reporting of COVID-19 data continues to be critical for India’s pandemic efforts. We systematically analyze the quality of reporting of COVID-19 data in over one hundred government platforms (web and mobile) from India. Our analyses reveal a lack of granular data in the reporting of COVID-19 surveillance, vaccination, and vacant bed availability. As of… Show more

“…While researchers have analysed the district-level COVID-19 infections and fatalities [ 35 , 36 ], as far as we know, our study is the first one to provide a comprehensive analysis of COVID-19 vaccination rates for all of the districts of India across different phases of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the country. Most existing research studies that have analysed the regional variation in the observed COVID-19 vaccination rates in India are mostly confined to state-level analyses or analysis of a particular state or district for early phases of the vaccination [ 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ]. In addition, we also draw the association between various demographic, socio–economic and health variables with the observed vaccination rates in the district.…”

“…While researchers have analysed the the district level covid infection and fatalities [33,34], as far as we know, our study is the first one to provide a comprehensive analysis of covid vaccination rates at the district level across the various phases of covid vaccination and the various demographic, socio-economic and health factors associated with the observed vaccination rates. Most existing research studies that have analysed the regional variation in the observed covid vaccination rates in India, research has been mostly limited to the heterogeneity in vaccine rates at the state level or a particular state or district and for early phases of vaccination [35,36,37,38]. Our research makes important contributions to the field of public health research by improving our understanding of factors that are associated with covid vaccination rates in India and in providing directions for future research.…”
