Assessment of Anti-Obesity Potential and Techno-Functional Properties of Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd. Bracts

Abstract: The present research signifies the anti-obesity potential of Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd. and its techno-functional properties. Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd. is a medicinal plant that belongs to the Nyctaginaceae family. Studies have reported the various bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, etc., in Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd., responsible for its biological properties such as antibacterial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antifunga… Show more

“…The extraction was carried out using 80% (v/v) ethanol and distilled water, with a sample/solvent ratio of 1:10 in an orbital shaker for 2–3 days at 150 rpm. The extract was then dried at 4–7 °C and stored in an airtight container (Kumar et al ., 2022).…”

“…Two hundred and fifty microliters of the sample were taken from a stock solution in a test tube, and 2 mL of 0.1 mM DPPH solution were added and incubated for 30 min in the dark at room temperature. Absorbance was measured at 517 nm using a UV spectrophotometer (UV‐1800 Shimadzu UV Spectrophotometer) to determine the reduction of radicals in DPPH (Kumar, Kaushik, et al ., 2022).…”

“…The percentage of glucose movement is significantly (P < 0.005) lower (53%) in Nigella sativa seeds synthesised CuNPs compared with control (61%) at 120 min. The main mechanism behind these Nigella sativa seeds synthesised CuNPs show the quenching property with the glucose molecules, which helps to improve glucose uptake due to glucose level reduction (Kumar et al, 2020(Kumar et al, , 2022.…”
