Assessment of aerobic endurance: a comparison between CD‐ROM and laboratory‐based instruction

Abstract: Traditional approaches to teaching exercise physiology are costly in terms of staff time and consumable expenses. Ethical considerations, large student numbers and availability of technical expertise magnify the delivery problems. In an attempt to overcome these problems, a CD-ROM version of a basic course in exercise physiology was designed and delivered to a group of undergraduate sport and exercise science students. It simulated five tests of aerobic endurance which are traditionally taught using laboratory… Show more

“…Not only may a number of students be performing similar activities at the same time on a network, the lecturer must decide whether to control the activities via the media of the computer. The use of multiparty desktop conferencing with the lecturer chairing the running of the conferencing session, showing selected parts of a video is a case in point [15].…”

“…In some physical education and sport science faculties, technology equipment is increasingly used for learning and research purposes. For instance, after graduating from university and work in some sport institutes, students are expected to be able to computerise hardware and software in knowing physiology and anatomical components in athletes (FitzPatrick, 2004), and understand the application of conceptual learning and motor skills in schools that use various multimedia provided in elite schools (Antoniou, et al, 2003;Kirkwood et al, 2002;Wiksten et al, 2002). Furthermore, physical education and sport science students are expected to use automatic software to analyse statistical data to do given tasks so that they will obtain accurate and valid data (Shiffett et al, 2001).…”
