Assessment of a Country’s Regional Economic Development on the Basis of Estimation of a Single Process (ESP) Method

Abstract: A B S T R A C T Objective:The objective of this article is to demonstrate an option of quantitative assessment of the status of an isolated complex target object. Research Design & Methods: Review of scientific literature, an analysis of statistical data and methods applied in the theory of multiple criteria have been used for the purpose of this research. Findings: The calculations have revealed that the proposed methodology is suitable for addressing real tasks. This methodology allowed the identification of… Show more

“…(3), where: i=1, 2…N; j=1, 2…, p (N is the number of entities (county), p -(number of features)means the unitarised value of the feature for a studied unit, zijmeans the value of the j th feature for a studied unit, maxmaximal value of the j th feature, minminimal value of the j th feature (Ginevičius, Gedvilaitė, & Bruzgė, 2015;Trojak, Tokarski, 2013). Synthetic measurement (3) allows measuring the distance brought to the range [0;1] in the real space with the Euclidean metric of the i th community in the year t from a hypothetical model community.…”

“…The qualitative assessment of the standing is limited because this case makes it impossible to compare the cost system aimed at improving the functioning of a system with the scope of improvements achieved. Therefore, two methods for a quantitative assessment of complex phenomena, which manifest in a variety of aspects in reality, have been developed in the recent years (Ginevičius et al, 2015(Ginevičius et al, , 2016Mardani et al, 2015;Zhou et al, 2007;Zavadskas et al, 2014).…”

“…If the objective is to determine the ranking of SES options (for instance, rank the regions across the country by their social-economic development), it looks as follows: Provided the objective of a multicriteria assessment is to assess the standing of development of an individual SES, the normalised values of indicators must be determined outside of the context in terms of the values of the same indicator in respect of other options. In such event, the normalisation is carried out in the following way (Ginevičius et al, 2015): A multicriteria assessment of the economic development across Lithuanian regions has been carried out based on the afore-mentioned methodology. It has been performed using the SAW method (Hwang, Yoon, 1981):…”
