Purpose Sustainability trends have changed the modus operandi in businesses even as the market environment becomes more socially conscious. However, relatively little research has been conducted on integrating social sustainability aspects with a focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) into the selection of suppliers in the service sector, particularly the banking industry. In this paper, this study aims to propose a CSR decision support methodology to evaluate and prioritize socially responsible suppliers. Design/methodology/approach A novel integrated decision support methodology composed of Shannon Entropy and TOmada de Decisão Interativa e Multicritério (TODIM) methods is introduced. The Shannon-Entropy approach is used to estimate CSR factor weights, and TODIM is used to rank the suppliers, with the process completed in a group decision setting. Findings A Nigerian bank was used as a case study to test and show the usefulness of the CSR-based decision framework in evaluating and selecting socially responsible suppliers. The results show the topmost ranked suppliers that are recommended for future negotiations by the case (bank). The study will enable banks to select socially responsible suppliers, which could accelerate the attainment of sustainability objectives, protect their reputations and improve competitiveness. Originality/value This study pioneers the application of a novel decision methodology based on Shannon Entropy and TODIM in selecting socially sustainable suppliers in the Banking sector of an African emerging economy-Nigeria.

In higher education, new teaching and learning behaviors have been observed over the past few years, mainly driven by digital transformation. The COVID-19 crisis has accelerated this process, with higher education institutions as well as students often having to change their behavior virtually from one day to the next. Digital media is a widely used term in the academic literature. It can refer to components such as social media, smartphones or tablets, videos, wikis, and search engines. Online-based technologies and the consumption of digital media content became more prevalent during the COVID-19 crisis. The present study reviewed scholarly databases in an attempt to ascertain current knowledge of the use and relevance of digital media in higher education. Several studies have discussed the advantages of using digital media in higher education institutions, but a framework supporting the application of digital media components is lacking. The present study used content analysis to examine these studies. It recommends that examination preparation, instructional content assistance, and student self-study enhancement would benefit most from the use of digital media.

This study investigated the challenges of teaching in the digital environment and identified digital competency among lecturers in higher learning institutions in the digital era. The survey was carried out from April to September 2022 with 155 valid responses among 200 lecturers, 77.5% response rate from private and public higher learning institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. PLS-SEM was used to analyse the survey results and hypothesis testing was conducted through bootstrapping. Among the seven hypotheses proposed, six were accepted and one was rejected, which was the development of digital learning resources towards competency teaching in the digital era.
