“…In the present study, confidence in vaccine safety was most strongly associated with willingness to participate, followed by trust in science. This is consistent with previous research findings that also identified correlations between the willingness to participate in a vaccine trial and trust (Detoc et al, 2017;Jaffe et al, 2020;Pérez Guerra et al, 2012). Surprisingly, information about questionable research practices was positively related with the willingness to participate.…”

“…This is the first study conducted to specifically explore WTP in dengue research in Indonesia and its related factors. The first study regarding WTP in dengue-related research anywhere was reported from Puerto Rico where WTP in a dengue vaccine efficacy trial had been assessed [ 28 ]. Basically, the concept of our study is similar to those on willingness to donate a blood sample for genetic research.…”

“…Up to now, WTP has only very rarely been assessed for research on dengue. The only record we found, from Puerto Rico, assessed the interest to participate in a dengue vaccine efficacy trial [ 28 ] and revealed that barriers for participating in a vaccine trial included lack of information on dengue vaccine candidates, lack of trust in new vaccines and trial procedures, and fear of infection or other side effects.…”

“…Previous work, in other countries, on the acceptability of a (hypothetical) DENV vaccine has shown widely differing results -for example, with very high acceptance (94%) of a potential paediatric DENV vaccination programme in an Indonesian survey (Hadisoemarto and Castro, 2013) but poor attitudes to vaccination in another Indonesian study, particularly among those of lower socioeconomic status and with poor knowledge of DENV (Harapan et al, 2016). Major barriers to participation in a DENV vaccine trial (lack of trust and information, fear of side effects and of exploitation) were also identified in Puerto Rico (Guerra et al, 2012). When we asked the participants of Familias sin Dengue about the acceptance of Dengvaxia®, 90% of the answers were, "Yes, I'll accept this vaccine."…”
