Assessing the Efficiency of Increasing the Track Speed in the Line Section Rokycany–Plzeň hl. n.

Abstract: Using simulation in OpenTrack, this paper analyses the journey of type trainsets on model infrastructure in the line section Rokycany–Ejpovice–Plzeň hl. n. The aim of this paper is to assess the efficiency of increasing the track speed in this section. Analyzing the output characteristics of the simulation, selected indicators were assessed which influence the efficiency of further increases in track speed. One of the simulation scenarios is using the European Train Control System Level 2 (ETCS L2) system as t… Show more

“…For effective comparison, it is appropriate to compare four selected indicators (the average travel time, the average travel speed, the number of connections, the average interval between connections). The values of these indicators are compared and shown in Table 1 [35,36]. These figures show that the average travel time was reduced by more than 30 min when compared to the current situation.…”

“…And deep learning models don't need it (more in the Figure 4), because the feature extraction step is already a part of the process that takes place in an artificial neural network. During the training process, this step is also optimized by the neural network to obtain the best possible abstract representation of the input data [4]. For example, if you want to use a machine learning model to determine whether a particular image shows a car or not, we humans first need to identify the unique features of a car (shape, size, windows, wheels, etc.…”

“…Zeng et al noted that using trains to move passengers and goods helps protect the environment by reducing energy consumption and emissions of pollutants such as CO 2 into the atmosphere [2]. Nachtigall et al emphasized that rail transport is the most environmentally friendly form of land transport, but that, in recent decades, the growth of individual road and air transport can also be observed [3]. Given its lower environmental impact and high traffic volume, rail transport can become an important sustainable system in the future [4].…”
